Why we do it

Buildings are a Problem

On one hand, buildings are an essential component of communities and vibrant urban life.

On the other hand, buildings are a major contributor to climate change and housing affordability issues.

  • Buildings generate nearly 40% of annual global CO2 emissions. (1)

  • Housing affordability is a crisis coast-to-coast, and indeed around the world. In fact, housing affordability is at its lowest levels since 2012. (2)

  • Both problems will be compounded by climate migration. In the next 45 years, 1 in 12 Americans living in the southern half of the United States will migrate towards the Mountain West, California and the Northwest. (3)

Buildings Can be a Solution

The impact of development decisions we make today reflect onto the citizens of tomorrow. In contrast to the status quo, our projects contribute positively to our shared future through:

  • Regenerative technologies

  • Sustainable urbanism

  • Financial models that benefit all stakeholders

Well-designed buildings work in harmony with their communities and enrich their local ecologies. Dense, walkable neighborhoods with ample 3rd places create strong real-life social networks that add meaning to all of our lives. Buildings made of renewable materials that efficiently use energy and water reduce our collective environmental footprints.

While the scale of our problems are grand, critical solutions are well-known. The important matter becomes not the engineering or knowledge; but rather the will and ability to execute.
